Pet peeve #42: I love when people take open source OS/tools/development and
then use it to produce software that is closed source or copyrighted as can
be- nothing like giving back to the community! Free software! (as long it's
not *my* code that we're talking about...)

Just so that you know. My company regularly makes financial
contributions to the FSF and various OS software like PostgreSQL.
Besides, our Linux platform is *purchased* from Redhat (who I believe
give something back to the comunity). I have also personally contributed
code changes and bugfixes to a number of OS software I have used in the
past.

Personally, I think the GPL is too restrictive and too left wing (almost
communist tendencies), and I try to avoid it whenever I can. We can't
all live in a barter system. However, I do believe in giving credit
where credit is due, and we make regular financial contributions to any
lesser GPL software we use - it is only fair to compensate people for
the work they have done. Doing otherwise would be stealing.

I'm glad to hear that then, many do not.

Your computer is called a *machine*, not a *box*. A
*box* is a term for computers reserved for the likes
of programmers, hackers, and developers.
