Default i'm looking for network traffic monitoring tools?

Hello.
I have linux box. and I'd like to traffic monitoring (eth0 ).

Does some have network traffic monitoring tools.
And I prefer open source base, to add some functionality by my self.

Any comment will help me.

Have a day.

Depending what your looking for a search at freshmeat.net for
"Network Monitoring" will give you several to pick from.

"ntop" is one of the more popular ones but it depends on what you
want.

Depends what sort of monitoring you want to do...

Ethereal/tcpdump do packet inspection and breakdown
iptraf is good for a snapshot of traffic volumes
ipband is good to alert you if your volume exceeds set values

Checkout NetContExt at http://www.inetd.com

They have a solution that lets you view the actual documents/images
been transferred on the network up to gigabit rates. NASA uses their
products as part of the homeland defence initiative. Its not open
source but its very unique.

Good for tracking movement of Intellectual property and seeing the
activities of 10,000's users in real-time. It keeps all network
transactions in a database that can be queried thro a secure web
interface.

Joe.
