Hey Vic, You're probably wondering what echomail is. The name implies its purpose. Echomail is message groups that BBS systems have configured on there BBS's to allow members of these BBS's to send messages. It's not email, it's like newsgroups, which are public message groups where people communicate with each other. The message is echoed to other BBS's connected to the same BBS network. I'm connected to the DOVE-NET network. The DOVE-NET is a collection of hobbist Synchronet BBS systems which exchange files and messages. You can also send private messages to users of this BBS by sending private messages. When I get back in a couple of months, I'll be building the files area so that users can download files. I currently have about 50,000 files for download. I just need time to configure the file areas. Chat with you, later. Nelson sends |

Must be time to show my age again :) Echomail is a label for a message system that is similar to usenet's newsgroups (in fact, many conferences have been ported each direction). The term originated in FidoNet about 1986. Unlike netmail which was truly point-to-point using directly dialed connections, echomail used store-n-forward transmissions between collection nodes. It is no more spam than this forum. JW |
