Default Nmap fails on SUSE 9.0

Hi All,

I'm stumped on this one. I've done a clean (not upgraded) install of
SUSE 9.0 on one of my machines. I installed the Nmap 3.30 package from
the CD.

When I run Nmap as an ordinary uer, it works fine and reports back
open ports, etc. If I su or log into root, and scan the same host that
I did as a normal user, I get the 'host seems down error, please try
-P0'.

Why does it work as a normal user and not as root. I have SUSE 8.2
installed on another machine and Nmap works just fine. I believe
something is broken on 9.0 with regards to Nmap. I even uninstalled
3.30 and downloaded 3.48 from insecure.org and that fails as well when
using the root account. Anyone have any ideas here? Thanks!

I have no idea, but nmap 3.48 was released a few weeks ago. You might
want to go to www.inseure.org to get the latest copy.

The OP very clearly stated that he had already done that, with the same
results.

Did you ask SuSE's support? You bought support with your package.
