After advice from this newsgroup, I installed Fedora Core 5, fired up
my machine, but failed to get an Internet connection on my x86 machine. I have verified that the cable is sound and the light turns on when I plug into the back of my network card. Below is the result of running ifconfig -a as root. Any suggestions on what a solution may be? > ifconfig -a eth0: Link encap: Ethernet HWAddr 0A:0C:F1:AE:54:c2 BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX Packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX Packets: 0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0.b) TX bytes:0 (0.0.b) Base address: 0xac00 Memory:ff800000 - ff820000 eth1: Link encap: Ethernet HRWAddr 52:54:00:ED:57:65 BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX Packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX Packets: 0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0.b) TX bytes:0 (0.0.b) Interrupt: 17 Base address: 0xb400 l0: Link encap: Local loopback inet addr: 127.0.0.1 Mask 255.0.0.0 UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU: 16436 Metric:1 RX Packets: 1622 errors:0 dropped:0, overruns:0 frame:0 TX Packets: 0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 RX bytes: 2866773 (2.7 MiB) TX Bytes: 2866773 (2.7MiB) sit0: Link encap: IPv6 - in - IPv4 NOARP MTU: 1480 Metric:1 RX Packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX Packets: 0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes (0.0b) TX bytes: 0 (0.0 b) Thanks, - Dave |

Worse than that, it's not even up. None of the interfaces in the original post are up. Are any of them even configured? |

Let's start with the information you didn't supply. What kind of network cards are these. What is in your modules configuration file (probably /etc/modules.conf or /etc/modules)? What kind of driver are you trying to use (see /var/log/messages at boot time)? You state that this is an x86 box, but don't mention the type (laptop, desktop) and so on. If the network cards are PCI, what information does /proc/pci have about them? Old guy |
