Default Downgrading a DSL modem's firmware

Hi all,

I have a dual boot machine with SuSE 9.3 and windows XP. I rarely use
windows though, and until a few days ago I had no problem connecting to
internet with SuSE (I have a netopia dsl modem that my ISP provided me with
my PPPoE account). Few days ago I decided to configure netowrking on the
Windows XP side. Sometime at that point, however, I may have inadvertantly
upgraded my modem's firmware (I am guessing this is my problem). Now when I
boot to SuSE, I can not connect to internet anymore. The SuSE logs show an
error message of:

"Time out waiting for PADO packets. Unable to complete PPPoE Discovery"

Does anyone know what this means and if this error message could indeed be
indication of firmware problem? (I can't see how else configuring XP can
affect SuSE connectivity.) If so, does anyone know how can I downgrade a
modem's firmware? Right now I have no trouble getting on net with XP. I have
no hub or router. I just have a single desktop with two OS on them, with one
modem and one cable to the ethernet port.

Thanks.

Thanks. It is actually PPPoE. It turns out that the problem was modem had
gone into DHCP mode instead of being in the Bridge mode.
