I have a linux (RedHat 10) box on a Windows domain, using SAMBA. It sees,
and is seen by, the rest of my internal network, but I can't get to the internet. Right now, my topology is as follows: DSL box leads to a NetGear firewall/switch. One cable leads to the first NIC in my primary domain controller (which is running Microsoft Proxy Server). A second NIC in the PDC leads to a hub, to which the remainder of my machines (including the LINUX box) are connected. My windows clients are running WIN XP, with Microsoft Proxy Client installed. Some years back, using the same setup, I had an earlier version of Red Hat installed, and it worked fine -- I just set the parameters in the browser (then Netscape) to NOT use a proxy, and somehow, it all worked itself out. Now however, the build shippedwith Mozilla, which may or may not be a factor. Do I need to actually set up the browser to use a proxy, and if so, are there any standard port numbers I have to use for the various services? Do I need, instead, to run the LINUX box directly to the firewall/switch? If I do this, will it still be able to participate in the local area network? Thanks. Andy |
