nntp

I'd like to write an ncurses newsreader in C with my own implementation of
the nntp protocol. Can anyone suggest where I can find a SIMPLE
implementation of nntp in C so I can see how it's done? I don't mean
source code for popular newsreaders which is too advanced, rather I'm
ideally looking for simple libraries or bare bones newsreaders.
