Hello,
I administrate small local network in which most of users login through gdm and use gnome without opening even single terminal window. The problem is: I would very much like to be able to send them messages with write (or maybe world's gone further and I'm missing some new technology of communicating in linux?) - what I've got on my mind is a deamon waiting for connections from write and poping a window in the middle of a screen with message_from_user when needed. Giving any sort of solution will be appreciated. If, additionally, it worked for talk as well it'd be just great :) sirix. |

Sorry for this quote, but "wall" is what You might want to use... You might want to take a looka at it? It supports ICQ and several other chat protocols as well and compiles / runs fine on the RedHat 9 and Windows systems in our organisation. Binaries for Windows and source for *nix is available. It is very stable and works perfectly for us. -- --- Stefan Viljoen Software Support Technician Polar Design Solutions |

There are two disadvantages of using GAIM: First is that users can just close them (or maybe there is a way of starting a program so users cannot close it???), and second is it doesn't work in situation when I connect with my local network from remote terminal (at internet cafe, let's say) - and that's mostly what I want to attain. sirix. |
