Hello guys, I have a bit of a problem. Looking for some comments.
First, what I want to obtain is that my laptop get access on the internet via it's wireless nic. Background and devices in play: 1) Netgear MA401 wireless NIC connected to the Dell Latitude Laptop 2) Microsoft Base Station wireless Cable/DSL Router (MN-500) (4 port sw as well) 3) Netgear Wireless Cable/DSL router (MR814) (4 port sw as well) 4) Linux Box acting as a fileserver/Webserver/Mailserver/Workhorse (running Slackware 9.0). Problem: Through MANY attempts to connect to the main Internet access point (MS Base Station) via my Netgear MA401 card with 40bit WEP turned on, I have given up on getting the two to communicate. I have used the HEX values as well as the passphrase. But I CAN connect to my Netgear MR814 via 40bit WEP successfully. 1 solution I came up with was to connect the WAN port of the Netgear MR814 to one of the ports of the MN-500 router (to be able to get internet access through it) and setting a default gateway on the Netgear. I'm getting DHCP setup from the MR814 to the laptop wireless NIC. After this is done I can access the net. Unfortunately, I have only 1 wire from the MN-500, and I have it connected to my Linux workstation (to provide mailserver/webserver services). So.. with this 1 wire from the MN-500, how can I get both my Linux fileserver, and my laptop access the internet wirelessly (under 40bit WEP)? Thanks.. Xytek |
