I run Linux almost exclusively from the console, with the window manager screen (textmode/ncurses). About the only time I bring up X is to use a fancy browser. Usually surf in text mode too. Got a TIDE I put together that's the penguin's honk. (Textual Integrated Desktop Environment) Not a game player though. For console games you should hit the BBS circuit. cool, I have no idea what you just said. What's TIDE? I googled it and found
nothing. Now surfing in text mode means no graphics right? only X can do that right? I mean there's no VGA way to do it in console...or ascii art way..(LOL). Any site I can look up for BBS game/console stuff? Thanks again buddy $Tn6.12756@newsread1.news.pas.earthlink.net... > On Wed, 09 Jun 2004 02:38:00 GMT, Timothy Law <timlaw@gamebox.net> wrote: > > > > > > Howdy, > > > > I love linux!!! Instead of buttons I have menus and instead of 'keyboard shortcuts' I have aliases. Screen (man screen) is a textmode window manager. I'm running 6 windows right now, could be 256. I could split them in many parts if I wanted to and can cut and paste between windows without a mouse. Is very cool. Works over a network too. > > Now surfing in text mode means no graphics right? only X can do that right? > I mean there's no VGA way to do it in console...or ascii art way..(LOL). > I surf without X most of the time. No graphics. Most of the graphics on the Internet are garbage. Very fast. If I need to, I bring up X and use Mozilla or Dillo. > Any site I can look up for BBS game/console stuff? > http://www.dmine.com > Thanks again buddy > No problem. Please bottom post. That means put your reply AFTER what you are replying to. See how I did it above, putting the response or question right after the appropriate part of your post? Easy to follow, isn't it? From man zgv: ZGV(1) Graphics Software ZGV(1) NAME zgv - picture viewer for VGA/SVGA displays SYNOPSIS zgv [options] [start-dir | file [file2 ...]] .... I can look at images on a website, one-at-a-time, with my textmode browser, which calls zgv. > > >> > Any site I can look up for BBS game/console stuff? >> > >> >> http://www.dmine.com >> >> > Thanks again buddy > > Well Thanks again bro > > Good work. This discussion is way OT on this newsgroup. I've set the follow-up to comp.os.linux.misc. Please honor it. AC |
