Someone asked me to set up linux on a compaq deskpro 4000 they were given.
I can't get it to boot off the CD, and have tried both debian and slackware floppy to network installs but neither can see the nic. Thinking that perhaps the built in nic was bad, I put in a known good 3com 590 nic, but it doesn't get recognized either. Looked on the compaq site and found that the built in nic should either be a 3c5x or an intel PRO/100, but so far can't find anything about what IRQ, etc should be. I assume that I need to enter some non-standard settings for the nic to get it to be seen, so does anyone know what those are? -- Harmon Seaver |
