I am looking for recommendations for an IEEE 802.11a/b/g trimode card (for
laptop) that people have had 1) good experience with working well under RedHat Linux, 2) good experience using for analysis with Ethereal, Kismet, and other wireless tools, and 3) good experience using for analyzing 802.11a, b, and g WLANs I have a Proxim Orinoco trimode card (8480-WD), which works well under Windows, but have NOT been able to get working under ReddHat Fedora Core 1 (yes, I have followed all directions on setting up an Atheros-based wireless NIC under Linux; no go). I need to get a trimode NIC that is proven to work reliably under Linux for doing WLAN analysis, as mentioned above. Thanks! --john |

As Fred has mentioned, there is an "open source" solution called NDISwrapper, whereby your GNU/Linux box can load your windoz XP version of the NDIS driver, and use it under Linux. You'll probably have to compile the "wrapper" to use it. Also available is another solution, called Driverloader. It too enables your linux box to load the windoz XP NDIS driver. http://www.linuxant.com/driverloader/ It supports your Atheros chipset, and is available as "source", "tarball" and RPM for selected distro/versions. There is a thirty day free trial license, and the permanent license costs twenty bucks or so. The free license is immediately available to you if you have a valid email address. Good Luck! vg |
