wvdial won't dial, Kermit dials, Please help

Yes. That was the first thing I tried (then added username, password
and ISP phone), and that did not work. Wvdial stumbles sending out
ATZ (or any AT command), yet I can manually send ATZ with an [OK]
response in kermit.
