Default Linux server

I'm looking for a server Linux that can replace SME Linux (which seems to be
a pretty broken version of Linux).

What I need is a server Linux that can handle:
1. Multiple disk drives set up as soft-raid pairs.
2. Multiple LAN cards - no point in having a hub if I have a server!
3. A modem with several alternate dial-up numbers.
4. Printers

Essentially I want to connect 2 PCs and a laptop to the server directly, use
the server to handle my data storage and my printing and to use it also as
an Internet gateway. A built-in firewall would be advantageous.

Any suggestions? SME can't handle multiple numbers or multiple LAN cards and
I've never managed to get it to work with the printer either.

I would recommend SuSE 9.0 professional if you are looking for GUI
configuration tools, or Slackware 9.1 if you are comfortable with the CLI
and editing config files. For printing, I would advise using cups.

It was good for me, but how would we know if it would be good for you.

Please read http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

if you have a machine with less than 128 meg ram or slow processor
it will not be good for you.

Only an idiot would use such a setup when you can easily get
one/two use-able switches for the price of a single decent NIC.

If you like GUI tools, take a look at SuSE 9.0.

- If you have a LG cd-rom drive, NO WAY! it will kill it
- I haven't tried 9.1, but i found 9.0 incredibly buggy compared to RH
Slackware (hadn't tried suse at the time)
