Hi Networking Gurus:
I am planning to setup my home network the following way (picture below). I believe with the DSL router I dont need to setup my Linux box to do routing or any other function. I plan assign IP addresses from the DSL provider to the machine statically. If you have any comments or suggestions or any resources that help doing networking in a mixed environment , I would appreciate it if you let me know. The inexpensive broadband routers just NAT 1 public IP to multiple private IPs. However, without knowing what ISP and type of DSL (adsl/sdsl) it is impossible to say exactly what you need. SBC Ameritech routes static IPs through a single PPPoE connection. ATT(Covad) sdsl included a modem/router, so the connection is transparent, and we can simply assign our public IPs to ethernet on boxes behind it. > DSL MODEM > | > Wireless DSL Router (with 4 direct ports) > | > ----------------------------------------------------- > | | | > Linux Box Windows98 WindowsXP-laptop > (wired) (wireless) (wireless) -- David Efflandt - All spam ignored http://www.de-srv.com/ http://www.autox.chicago.il.us/ http://www.berniesfloral.net/ http://cgi-help.virtualave.net/ http://hammer.prohosting.com/~cgi-wiz/ |
