VPN Apps Delayed at Start

I'm using Cisco's vpn client on Mandrake 9.1 and I can connect to remote
networks. My problem is whenever I launch an application that isn't
already running the application takes about fifteen seconds before it
actually launches. Once the application is launched it performs fine.
When the vpn isn't active the applications launch instantaneously.

Any ideas?
