First, what are you trying to do? "How do you network..." is a very vague
question. You might be trying to share files, share printers, perform
remote logins (text- or GUI-based), or do any of many other things. The
DIRECTION is also important; for instance, giving the Linux box access to
files on the Windows machine requires different operations than giving
the Windows machine access to files on the Linux box.

Second, do you have ANY networking functions operating? If so, on which
machine(s)? Do you have appropriate hardware (such as Ethernet NICs)?

Finally, I'm not at all sure what you mean by "using a windows based
router." Are you saying you've got three computers -- a Linux box, a
Windows box, and a Windows box sitting between the other two and
configured as a router? Are you saying the Windows box is functioning as
a router to the Internet (say, using ICS)? Are you saying you want to
configure the Windows box in this way but it's not yet set up? Are you
saying you've got a Microsoft-branded broadband router? Something else?

As a practical matter, I suggest you first review some basic Linux
networking documentation. There's lots available at http://en.tldp.org.
The Home Network Mini-HOWTO
(http://en.tldp.org/HOWTO/mini/Home-N...ini-HOWTO.html) is
particulary likely to be helpful to you, I think. The Networking HOWTO
(http://en.tldp.org/HOWTO/Net-HOWTO/index.html) contains more detail. If
you review this material and still have questions, please post again.
