1) I am trying to network an XP Pro box and a Redhat 8.0 box using SAMBA
2.2.5+. I can see/access shared folders on the Redhat box but now I'm trying to figure out how to access Windows shared folders from the Redhat box. Can anyone tell me if I need to use SAMBA or NFS for this? 2) Also, when I run this command 'smbclient -L hostname' to the system responds that it has added an interface x.w.y.z and prompts me for a password, which I enter. It then responds with: 'session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGIN_FAILURE' can anyone tell me why I'm getting this error? and is it related to my smb.conf file? Appreciate any feedback I can get. Thanks, Gerry Quan |

Your multiple crossposting missed the most topical groups possible:
comp.protocols.smb and linux.samba. My reply only goes here, where I read and it is somewhat topical. Is the user created there? Check the logs (event viewer IIRC) there. > and is it related to my smb.conf file? Quite possibly. Password encryption might be at issue. Windows expects encrypted passwords. -- /dev/rob0 - preferred_email=i$((28*28+28))@softhome.net or put "not-spam" or "/dev/rob0" in Subject header to reply |
