Default updating suse 10 via internet and yast: possible?

Hello all. One of our administrators installed Suse 10 on a machine in
my lah,
I think from the free ISO version from opensuse. Previously I've bought
and installed
9.3 on another machine and know you can select lots of extra software
to install.
He must not have because I'm missing lots of stuff including emacs and
some
Gnome utilities I like.

Can I use YAST to do essentially the same thing over the net? Let me
select packages
or software I want, and go get it from somewhere (where?), and then
install it,
just as if I were intalling from the downloaded boot CD image from Suse
from opensuse, or from purchased CDs?

Or do I need to do a completely new installation to have the
opportunity to install all of the missing software?

Thanks very much in advance for any assistance...

Jim

YaST does this extremely well. Look up the step-by-step instructions at
http://www.opensuse.org/Additional_Y...e_Repositories

Thanks Robert, this is great. I'm confused though because it still
wants the CDs even though I've added online sources for packages to
YAST. Why does it want CDs if I'm just getting Emacs from the online
source? Can I just download the free CD ISOs from opensuse and use
them? If I have to buy new CDs that defeats the whole point it would
seem.....

Thanks very much,
Jim

In YaST / Installation Source, select the line that points to the CDs
and click on the Enable/Disable button, this will set the first flag on
the line to "Off" and YaST will not ask for the CDs

Because YaST is looking at a number of different installation sources
and the first one is likely to be the CDs.

You can do that, but you can also disable the CD search and only use the
Internet repositories

For comparison, I have the following sources enabled:

HTTP Sources

anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/mirrors/suse/x86_64/10.0/SUSE-Linux10.0-GM-Extra
anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/mirrors/suse/x86_64/10.0/inst-source-extra
packman.iu-bremen.de/suse/10.0

FTP Sources

ftp.mirrorservice.org/sites/ftp.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/inst-source/
ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-guru/rpm/10.0

I also have an ftp mirror of the packman source which is normally
disabled but can be used if the other source is too heavily loaded or
(as happened once before) does not respond for some other reason.

You definitely do not have to buy the CDs in order to be able to install
software for SUSE
