Default input score, play music?

I have a couple sets of sheet music from old high school days. Can anyone
tell what software I'd have to put together to input the score, and then
have it played back? ... or point me to some directions?

Any and all help appreciated.

noteedit & lilypond

noteedit is a visual based front end. straight forward: note, note, note
.... and out to midi.

lilypond is a music typesetter - takes a fair bit to get used to this one
but it is world class if you put in the effort to climb that steep
learning curve. Remember that it is firstly designed to print sheet music,
but it does also have midi functionality.

This is something I've wondered about--what about the reverse direction?
Will this lilypond do that? I.e. can I sing a song into the mike and
have it print me the score?

Of course I don't expect it to print the lyrics,
just the notes.

Sweet dreams, baby!

It's very, very difficult to do that, although lilypond and noteedit both
attempt to reverse from midi files. problems include 'how long is a 1/4
note' and 'how exact can you sing that 1/4 note'. The resulting
interpretation usually takes as long to clean up as entering a score by
hand.
