Default How to download this?

Hi:

This HP page is screwy. Can't download when clicking the download links
in Moz 1.6 in Suse 9.1

Instead, it loads the binary file into the browser window. Konqueror
works though.

How can I make Mozilla not display but instead download this?

I have MIME type application--exe, Extension *.exe set to save to disk
in Moz preferences. There's something fishy about the link that makes
Moz confused.

Thanks for input.

Good day!

You know Chris, had you provided the URL, we could have even looked
at that page. :-)

Which means that it has been downloaded onto your machine. You
couldn't see it if it wasn't.

What you are having problems with is saving it to disk.

So use it. Mozilla is real quirky sometimes.

wget -O /path/name.extension URL

The -O option allows you to save the file under whatever path/
name/extension you want.

Wget is better than Mozilla or Konquerer for a lot of HTTP
operations.

Oops. Sorry.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...2&swEnvOID=181

I was trying to get the

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...re%2Fdj726.exe

link, which is "HP DeskJet 1120C Series Printer Driver. -- Download" button.

It's just a scripting problem. Somehow Moz thinks it's a plain text file.

Ugh! Mozilla downloads it right here on my home machine!

Same Moz 1.6 version (Suse's stock .rpm), same Suse 9.1. Never touched
the helper apps configuration. The same boxes do two different things.
And we thought only Windows did things like that...

Good day!

Maybe you could go directly to the targetPage=
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/software/dj726.exe

Yes. The point was really to figure out why Mozilla couldn't handle the
link properly and displayed the data instead of offering to save to disk.

But of course, I can't repeat the ordeal on my Mozilla here at home.

The wonders of YOU updates and the like. After you update certain
system components like libs, and aren't consistent with other users, how
can anyone expect to make sense of quirks like these?

Good day!

This normally happens, when data is sent with a content type
of text/plain. Mozilla then rightly assumes, that this is
plain old text, which it can display just fine and will
happily do so.

The error is usually on the sending side, ie. on the server and
in its configuration.
