I would like to get recommendations for a high bandwidth commerical
shell account that enables ssh access with agent forwarding and X11 forwarding with a generous allowance of data transfer (10-20GB/mo). I don't care about web hosting or IRC or inbound access to any port other than ssh, and don't need a lot of hard drive space (200-500MB). I would like to have access to reasonably current version of unix utils (gcc, python, emacs, wget) and the ability to compile code in my home dir, run a few background process, and generally do what I want as long as I don't break the rules (ie, no hacking, no spamming, no illegal stuff). Basically, I want a place where I can run some web scraping code and don't need a lot of storage because I can move stuff off site as needed. I searched for shell accounts on google and found a number of commercial providers. However, many seem tailored for people with a specific interest (web servers, IRC clients/servers) and are skimpy on the details that interest me (bandwidth, utils that are installed) so I was wondering if someone here had a recommendation for a good performance/price host. I can't afford to go the rackspace / dedicated server route. Thanks! HDJ |
