Default Reading .mod video files

My wife bought a Canon FS100 video camera that records to sd card or
internal memory. I did a little recording and put the card in my PC.
YUCK!! The video and audio were choppy. Our green lawn looked
fluorescent green. Has anyone gotten this camera's output files to work
in linux? I booted up WinXP and tried the card. WinXP chose to view the
files with a DVD player application and recordings played back OK. If
this camera only works with Windows it goes back!
