I own a popular website algebra.com.
I have a script to count the percentage of linux visits as a percentage of all human visits. It used to hover at about 0.7%, but in the last couple of months changed to 1.05% or so. So it is growing a little bit. i |

So it is growing a little bit. Only because you're spamming the Linux newsgroups with the URL. |

Therefore, posting the algebra.com URL on this newsgroup, would not even register a blip on the traffic radar of algebra.com. This is a proof that I am not spamming my URL algebra.com for the purpose of getting traffic on algebra.com. It just would not make sense! Algebra.Com is not a computer related website and appeals to children who need help with algebra. Thus, I think, the linux use percentage comes from a population sample that is not biased on favor of any particular OS. i |

Now, On topic, the 1%+ even seems low to me since I have seen industry figures showing closer to 10% overall against M$ hefty 80%. Whether that is at work, home, geeks, kids, overseas, or whatever is the statistic I didn't trip over. Maybe 10% have it installed and 10% of their kids visit. Linux is picking up steam as Windows shows more crack in their (aero?) glass. Bill Baka |

And if genetics plays a role, many of our kids don't need it, either. So 1% is 1% of ''average'' users, not just geek sysadmins and programmers. --keith -- kkeller-usenet@wombat.san-francisco.ca.us (try just my userid to email me) AOLSFAQ=http://www.therockgarden.ca/aolsfaq.txt see X- headers for PGP signature information |

There is probably no other OS that an claim 50% increase in the past year, let alone in a few months! |

I would think the population of "children who need help with algebra" would not be representative of Linux users. -- Wes Groleau http://groleau.freeshell.org/teaching/ |
