Default Internal sound "card" disappears on reboot ...

Hi Guys,
When I reboot my machine (ASUS P5K Se motherboard)
I loose my sound card. I never know if it will show up again.
This does not happen when I boot to XP.
I'm running kernal 2.6.23.14-107.fc8

Any thoughts?

Does this machine have any other sound devices?
(see /proc/asound/cards)

How did you configure the sound cards?

Clemens

I had a problem like that. The bios setting was to AUTO. Changed it to
enable and it came back. In Auto it disappeared when another card was
present / detected.

This is what's in /proc/asound/cards
mleek @ westie:/proc/asound Sat Mar 15 11:53 AM
>cat cards

0 [U0x46d0x8d7 ]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x8d7
USB Device 0x46d:0x8d7 at usb-0000:00:1a.2-1,
full speed

and this is what's in /proc/asound/card0/stream0:
USB Device 0x46d:0x8d7 at usb-0000:00:1a.2-1, full speed : USB Audio

Capture:
Status: Stop
Interface 2
Altset 1
Format: 0x2
Channels: 1
Endpoint: 3 IN (NONE)
Rates: 8000
Interface 2
Altset 2
Format: 0x2
Channels: 1
Endpoint: 3 IN (NONE)
Rates: 16000

I did nothing to explicitly configure any cards.

I updated the BIOS, but i could not find anything the referred to the
sound device. I tried resetting usb stuff from audo to enabled, but
to no effect.

The only other card on the machine is a Nvidia 8600 graphics card

On a reboot where the sound started working again /proc/asound/cards
has:

0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xf9ff8000 irq 22
1 [U0x46d0x8d7 ]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x8d7
USB Device 0x46d:0x8d7 at usb-0000:00:1a.2-1,
full speed

a listing gives
