How do I troubleshoot sound in dosemu/

I have installed dosemu and dosemu-freedos. The emulator appears to be working
fine, but I get no sound from the dos games that I have installed. I can't
tell whether the problem is with the emulator, or with the configuration of the
installed games.

How can I go about troubleshooting this? Is there a simple test program that
could be used to test the soundblaster emulation from within the emulated dos
environment?

(I might need to test both wav and opl3 emulation)
