Fedora uses a hardware detector called Kudzu at boot time, which should automate much of the process. Your message suggests that the installation routine for your hardware has been called, but cannot complete because you need a copy of the kernel source code on the machine to help the installer work out where to plug things in. Most Linux installations have a "package manager" to help you install software, and you will be able to use that to add the kernel sources to your system. I've lost track of whether fedora uses yum or rpm or some graphical tool to do it now, and in any case fedora 5 is a little out of date, fedora 7 is out and about so you will have to be a bit careful reading on-line advice to make sure it applies to your system. There is a LOT of documentation at http://docs.fedoraproject.org/ including http://docs.fedoraproject.org/drafts...e-en/ch-intro- packaging.html about package managers. But it will be heavy reading for someone whose first language is not english. You might want to join a local user group, I find they can be very helpful, and fun. Here is a list of most of them: http://www.linux.org/ groups/ You may do better with a Fedora-specific group: alt.os.linux.redhat is the closest I could find. Or with a Fedora forum: http:// www.fedoraforum.org/ or http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...umdisplay.php? forumid=35 spring to mind. But there are others in other languages too. A friend of mine gets all her help from a portugese-language forum in Brazil http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Communicate is a good place to find -- Bob Harvey OETKB |
