Ubuntu on Dell Vostro? 6.10 doesn't work

I can't start Ubuntu 6.10 on a Dell Vostro laptop from the DVD. Some complaint
about helper microcode and X server not initialized at the end.

It works okay on Inspirons.

Am I missing some news I ought to know?

Are you trying to start the installer? If so, try using the alternate
install CD, which doesn't depend on X starting. If you're trying the live
CD, you can try editing the boot entry to include "acpi=off". ACPI seems to
cause a ton of problems on the live cds with newer computers.
