Hi, there,
I have a fresh intallation of Fedora 4. I have set up the samba. I could not access the samba share on a linux box from a PC box and got the error message of wrong user or password at the pc box. I checked the message log relating to samba on the linux box, as follows: Nov 8 00:01:37 hornsby smbd[8680]: [2005/11/08 00:01:37, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:startsmbfilepwent(279) Nov 8 00:01:37 hornsby smbd[8680]: startsmbfilepwent_internal: failed to set 0600 permissions on password file /etc/samba/smbpasswd. Error was Permission denied Nov 8 00:01:37 hornsby smbd[8680]: .Unable to open passdb database. Nov 8 00:01:37 hornsby smbd[8680]: [2005/11/08 00:01:37, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:startsmbfilepwent(204) Nov 8 00:01:37 hornsby smbd[8680]: startsmbfilepwent_internal: unable to open file /etc/samba/smbpasswd. Error was: Permission denied Nov 8 00:01:37 hornsby smbd[8680]: [2005/11/08 00:01:37, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:add_smbfilepwd_entry(606) Nov 8 00:01:37 hornsby smbd[8680]: add_smbfilepwd_entry: unable to open file. I have checked the /etc/samba/smbpasswd file: -rw------- 1 root root 214 Nov 4 10:42 smbpasswd which is by default. By the way, the samba users have been created by converting unix users, using Webmin. (I did the same thing for previous installations of redhat linux and had no problems at all.) |
