Default recommended certifications?

Linux community,

It has come to my attention that being a skilled Solaris administrator
is no longer enough to land a System Administration position. It
seems one now has to also have experience in Linux. In lieu of
getting a job that I cannot get in order to gain experience I don't
already have in Linux, I was considering a Linux certification.

Being new to the Linux world, I was looking for some humble opinions
regarding which certifications have the most credibility, and which
seem to be the most cost efficient etc. etc.

In addition, perhaps someone could advise me on other certifications
which are well worth having in the system administration world. I
wanted a certification for Veritas Cluster Server, but their
certification program appears to be in beta stage right now. Other
considerations include the GIAC certification from SANS institute.
