nfs/statd: cannot talk to statd (linux 2.6.4/solaris 2.8)

Hi all,

Running Suse 9.1 as the server and Solaris 2.8 as the client.
The distro for suse compiles it as a kernel version of nfs, with
no statd process. when i rpcinfo on the server (linux) I get:

any help is GREATLY welcomed. Not sure what else to try....thank,
