horrible problem with leafnode as a local news server-crosspost

to begin with i must said i set it up correctly under open bsd and it
works perfectly fine.
my os is slackware 9.0, leafnode 2.x. i am trying to set a few local news
groups on a machine attached to and only lan. after instaletion i set up
groups (checkgroups, fetchnews) and everything seems to be fine. while
posting something ie. pine says that post was sent and saved in the
sent-message folder. but the post DOES NOT SHOW UP ON THE GROUP! all
permissions of the leafnode directories are set rwxrwsr-x.

any help or sugestion deeply apraciated
