This is using the default kernel/ default gcc of Slackware.

For example, on the Slackware 12.0 system:

uname -a
Linux gecko 2.6.21.5-smp #2 SMP Tue Jun 19 14:58:11 CDT 2007 i686 Genuine Intel(R) CPU 2160 @ 1.80GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

gcc --version
gcc (GCC) 4.1.2

Due to the number of changes to get it working on Slackware 12.0, it may
be more interesting to wait for IPFILTER 5.x.

In fact, it seems more logical now that I think of it of adding the new
Slackware fixes to the IPFILTER 5.x branch ...
