Default solaris 8 - solaris 9 compatibility

Hi,

I need to deploy the combo fwbuilder - iptables - ipfilter across some
15 unix servers, a combination of linux x86, sparc sol 8, sparc sol 9
and intel sol 9.

I managed to compile pfil v2.1.6 and ipfilter4.1.8 for solaris 9 sparc.
trying to do so for solaris 8, i stumbled accross this error message
for pfil:

"pkgmk: ERROR: length of parameter value
<ARCH_updated_by_sed_when_package_is_built> exceeds limit

the compile went fine, only the creation of the package failed. (I DID
use the gcc makefile). i used gcc 3.4.2 for solaris 8.

Now my question: how can I resolve this problem ?
second question: i actually managed to install the packages i built for
solaris 9 on this solaris 8 machine. But how reliable is it ? i
rebooted, and when i do ifconfig eri0 modlist, the packet filter is
loaded, so it seems fine.

But i would feel better with a specific solaris 8 version.

Furthermore, has anyone used fwbuilder together with ipf on solaris ? I
tested it out a month or so ago, and it worked, but the shell script
that was generated contained a "grep -q " statement that solaris didn't
understand (i needed to remove the '-q' parameter).

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
tom.
