Default Problems installing pfil on Sun Fire V240

We are trying to install ipfilter 4.1.7 on one of our Sun Fire V240s
here and are having problems getting the pfil installation
complete. Following the README I was able to build and install the
latest pfil package (solairs make, forte 7.0). The installation of the
package completed with no errors, /etc/opt/pfil/iu.ap looks correct
and the reboot was clean. However when I run the strconf command (
"strconf < /dev/bge" ) I don't see pfil. The ipconfig <if> modlist and
modinsert commands worked ok but I suspect the lack of the pfil in the
streams list is going to be a problem. Anyone have idea what might be
going on here?=20

Relevant data:
[root@wrls-app1 /]# cat /etc/opt/pfil/iu.ap=20
bge -1 0 pfil

[root@wrls-app1 /]# ifconfig -a

inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000=20
