jabber and ipfilter problem

My jabber 1.4.2 is running fine on a p233 96Meg ram
FreeBSD 4.8-current(as of two days ago) but once I
configured ipfilter 3.4.31 then jabber will not work. I
put a rule to allow all traffic in and out and it still doesn't
work. I can ping, sshd, etc to it and I ipmon and it's
showing ipfilter allowing the attempt to connect, pass through.
I'm stumped. Any suggestions. Has anyone else had this
problem?
