So noone has ever successfully compiled freeradius on Fedora core 3?

I agree - I use Fedora Core and had problems compiling it - if you use
'yum' to install the rpm package you should be fine.

Fedora core 3 already has an rpm for freeradius it may be easier than
the
config'ing yourself..
