Default [courier-users] Courier not accepting external connections at all

Hello,

In a desperate maneuver to convince esmtpd to accept mail
from external servers (e.g. gmail, yahoo etc.) I have edited
SMTPACCESS in the following way:

127.0.0.1 allow,RELAYCLIENT
0 allow, RELAYCLIENT

I have also added my domain to the following files:
locals
hosteddomains
defaultdomain
esmtpacceptmailfor

I did run the coresponding make scripts.

Apart from these settings, anything else is in the default state
(as configured by installation scripts).

Guess what? Still not accepting external email. This is weird at least.
Intranet machines can connect without any problem.
My courier machine (running CentOS) is behind a router which
performs port forwarding and NAT. Firewall and SELinux are
both disabled. The smtp port it IS being forwarded, I checked that.

Any ideeas?
It's been two days since I'm fighting this issue, with no luck at all.

Thank you,
Katy.
