Default [courier-users] Help with Courier and Mandrake

Has anybody any experience with setting up a Courier email server in
Mandrake? I've been fumbling my way thru an install, following the guide
at http://www.courier-mta.org/?install.html.

I've got the package made and installed. I issue the start command,
/usr/lib/courier/sbin/courier start, and it returns to the prompt
without comment. When I do a showmodules, I get:

[root@linuxmail log]# /usr/lib/courier/sbin/showmodules
showmodules: INFO: Loading STATIC transport module libraries.
showmodules: INFO: Courier 0.49.0 Copyright 1999-2005 Double Precision, Inc.

[root@linuxmail log]#

When I do a mailq, I get:

[root@linuxmail mail]# mailq
postqueue: warning: Mail system is down -- accessing queue directly
Mail queue is empty
[root@linuxmail mail]#

This box is configured on a temporary static IP address, not the one the
current windows mail server is live on. I'm just trying to get some
basic functionality out of this, so I can see the webadmin function, and
decide if it's what I want to switch to.

It would seem that courier is not running. Can anybody point me in the
right direction to get this thing up and running?
