Absolutely not. The courier server is under constant development. Why bother
if you don't want anyone to use it?

It *is* true that courier is more standards-compliant than much of the
opposition - which means that sometimes there are problems for
non-standards-compliant clients that might try to connect to the server.
Personally, I find that that eliminates lots of spam - but your milage may
vary.

In fact, a large proportion of the stict standards compliance can be
switched off if that is important to you.
