Turn off SSL/TLS in your client if you're using it, and then use a
packet dump utility to watch your own session. If your workstation is
Unix/Linux, you can run ngrep or ethereal on your workstation to watch
the session traffic and figure out where the delay is. Otherwise, you
can run one of those tools on the server. ngrep is easier to figure
out, but ethereal is more flexible (if you're going to use it often),
and is packaged with more Linux distributions.

List members have suggested decreasing the number of cached connections
in the client. If this is the problem, you should have seen messages in
your log files that indicate that the new connection was dropped because
you have too many open already. Watch your logs while you try to open
those folders and see if that's the case.
