BIND9 does not support them. Nothing should be using inverse queries, apart from ancient, idiot software -- ie some versions of nslookup -- that should have been replaced ages ago. There is no document which mandates any DNS query should have a specific ID. In fact it would be very silly to do that. The ID field is to allow the client to match a reply to the corresponding query. If the client had a number of outstanding queries all sharing the same ID, deciding which reply matched which of those queries could be interesting. |
