Thanks for the reminder. I should have written:

The concept of master and slave is local to the zone in the instance of
bind running.

Because we use hosting platforms and they allow for automated bind
setup, we generally run our zone masters on the same systems that run
the webhosting and we slave the domains on a few distributed servers.
