DNS parent server reports no A record and I can't get back from this: help

Hi,

The story is as follows. I am moving a domain from one machine to
another on a different network completely.

1. changed whois record to report new nameserver (only one
unfortunately at this point)
2. left box for night

3. next morning found that nameserver was off network for 10 hours.
blast.
4. assume DNS zone transfer didn't work
5. find that parent servers no have NO A record for domain

I have now waited for 24 hours and nothing has improved. Even though
my nameserver is running as it should. It is a .ORG domain. Does
anyone know what I should do. I am scared something has gone badly
wrong. Do I just need to wait for the next update?
