Default Apache on Debian/Sarge

I attempted to install the newest version of Apache for Debian/Sarge,
1.3.27.0-2 and got an error during configuration:

Setting up apache (1.3.27.0-2) ...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/apache.postinst: line 8:
/usr/share/apache/postinst.common: No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing apache (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
apache
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I'm not sure why it's looking for directories that don't exist. I've
never had this issue with any other package. Maybe that's not really
the problem but a symptom of something? Has anyone sucessfully
installed this version of apache on Debian or ran into this problem as well?

TIA,
A.V.
