learn cpu load

i'm programming a web-switch that's manages the cluster's workload (
cluster formed of 5 pc) . i had to know the cpu's load of varius server
on which it's installed apache.
is there any method to know by apache the load of the cpu?
i need only the data of load, not a graphic or other data.
