Apache 2.2.3 configure scripts crashes Solaris 9

I am trying to run the configure script for Apache 2.2.3. When I run
it, within a few seconds it crashes my Solaris 9 server (Sun v440).
This is what I have for options:

rm config.cache
../configure \
--prefix=/usr/local/apache \
--enable-module=all \
--enable-shared=max \
--enable-module=so

After about 20 seconds the configure script stops with these lines:

Check for compiler flags...
checking whether to enable -D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE...

I have compiled older versions of Apache with no issue. Contents of

I did a recursive grep on LARGE64 and found that using --disable-lfs
will prevent that LARGE64 from being checked. It works, configure ran
clean as well as the make. It appears the crash is a Veritas issue.
