access logs

I am in the process of creating stats for our intranet but when I refer
to our access.log the entries seem to include stop and start entries.
I thought the log file would be more comprehensive but the entries seem
to record information in the format requested. I am unsure of what to
include so any help in finding out what is missing from the .comf file
would be appreciated.
