Default installing a DSO on a production server w/ v1.3

I found instructions for installing php as a DSO for apache 1.3 here:
http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/php/2001...php_admin.html. I plan on
following them all the way up until the 'restart apache' step which I
will do late at night on a weekend when no one is using the server.

My question is, if somthing goes wrong and apache will not start, how
do I back out of the installed module and make everything how it was
before? I'd prefer to not have my bosses foot very far up my arse on
Monday morning :)

Take a copy of your httpd.conf and ssl.conf before you start.

interesting, i was wondering about that. the instructions never
mention i need to modify the httpd.conf to insert the DSO but it makes
sense that I would need to do so. very simple.
